FIRST is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen, who invented the
Segway Human Transporter. The goal of US FIRST is to make educational subjects such as math, science,
and technology as fun to young people as sports and video games would be. Instead of kids spending
their free time playing sports, they could be doing something just as fun and educational.

Dean Kamen stated that sports and entertainment are the benefits that indivudals receive from the successes of their minds. US FIRST is interested in allowing people to celebrate the success of creative, extensive thinking in the same manner as sports and entertainment.

US FIRST holds the FIRST Robotics Competition. In this competition students from different
schools around the world come together to compete. These schools are all given objectives in which
a robot must be built to complete in a six week time period. These objectives are put to use in 33 regional
events in which over 1,125 teams participate in. Some other countries other than the U.S that participate
in this competition are Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, Israel, Mexico, and the U.K. These countries apply basic school subjects such as math, science, and engineering. The way these students apply these subjects is what determines if they get a scholarship. Scholarships are introduced by universities, colleges, businesses, corporations, and certain individuals.

Teams are graded on their professionalism and maturity, team spirit, and how they overcome challenges provided by US FIRST Robotics competition. This competition should be promising this year, and the years to come.

Other competitions and activities first runs are the FIRST LEGO League for kids, FIRST Vex Challenge, FIRST Place
